Awesome Neil! I’m ultimo- jealous. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor’s processor hmmm? ;)That *is* brand-spanking new though, since AMD and Intel JUST unveiled the first hexa-core CPUs for consumers. Seems like only recently that 4 cores were the most you could pack into a single desktop processor die. Last year I wanted an extreme quad core processor, but will wait a little longer and eventually build my own dream machine. Right now, I’ll settle for a laptop, as I needed a new one. About a month ago I bought a Intel Core i7-720QM Quad Core Mobile CPU, not anywhere as impressive as your new pc, but it’ll suffice.
Btw, Intel's next desktop, coming at the end of 2010 (code-named "Sandy bridge") will be brand new microarchitecture using the same 32nm process as “gulftown”. . . former code-name of Intel’s Core i7-980X. In 2011, AMD will drop its bulldozer microarchitecture, an 8-core desktop monster – code-name “Zambezi.” And someday, we'll see that our silicon-based 60-core Intel Core Zeta 10,000 will be replaced by some new-fangled photon processor. Anyway, enjoy!
