I advice people to read the whole program before making judgement

In Response To: 15th Annual Oslo Open, May 14-16, 2010 (Daniel Murphy)

Some ideas behind the format

  • Easy and effective structure including a non progressive consolation makes it possible to schedule all matches in advance
  • Prize pool : 2/3 main, 1/3 consolation. In effect 2 short tournament trees with a significant prize
  • This is a 2 day tournament so a short structure is practical if you want to have a lot of play (each round in main is 21 points, 17 points in consolation)
  • We guarantee parity in the first round by having standby players if the tournament tree is odd

    A drawback : People who lose 2.round or 3.round don't cash and don't get a consolation match.
But : Every tournament format including Nordic Open have some drawback (you dont get second chance if you directly qualify for last 8). Progressive consolations produces a lot of play for little equity. Monrad tournaments can be pretty pointless if you have a bad win record in the first couple of rounds etc.
