The format is unfair!

In Response To: I advice people to read the whole program before making judgement (Tore Fredriksen)

A similar format is used in the South African Open where only 1st round losers make it into the consolation. I have been trying to persuade the tournament director to change this, but he insists that it is too much of an organisational headache, especially for a one day event.

I personally hate the format. How can it be fair for someone who managed to get further in the main event (beating supposedly tougher opponents) to be sent packing?
