Complexity In Bridge And Poker

If you're trying to be effective at the top levels in Bridge, you are constantly involved in a bidding method arms race. Just trying to improve your own bidding will leave you in the dust. Many highly competitive cultures all over the world are constantly revising artificial methods. You have to get to know those methods, and develop ways to react and defend against them.
Games where you can succeed by dwelling on your own play present a different, narrower challenge.
The closest thing to Bridge, currently, is big bet poker, a game that has been undersold in this thread. If you think about the very broad spectrum of decisions that can be made on multiple streets, you will find a huge game theory venue. Spend some time on three-betted continuation ranges in 6max, deep NLHE. Spend some time on multi-tabling PLO and simultaneously playing different strategies against the same opponent.
One maxim: complexity follows the money.
