If you think of it, there are essentially two great families of card games: Whist, and Rummy. In the one the object is to take tricks, in the other to "meld" cards, that is, build certain combinations. Bridge is the most complex and interesting Whist game, largely because of the additional element, the bidding. Poker is the most interesting rummy game, because of the additional elements relating to the wagering. Both require problem solving skills, and both rely heavily on communication.
That said, a cheeseburger and a pepperoni pizza are both made with meat, cheese, tomato sauce, and bread. Some people prefer one, some the other, and some like both. The fact that I prefer bridge and Stick prefers poker says less about the games than it does about us.
