To Tim's question -- yes, the 3 points you can't use with an 8-cube gammon change the value of winning that gammon by a lot. Differently at different scores of course. Compare 16a/16a where that G gains 50% ME, and 13a/16a where it's only worth 38%.

At Max's 13a/19a score, winning 13 points gains % ME compared to dropping 4 points. If you led 16/a19a, winning 16 points would gain 54% compared to dropping 4 points.

Or look what ME winning a single game gets you, and how much extra a gammon is worth. If you win 8 points at Max's score, you are 5a/19% for 95% ME. So winning a gammon's only worth another 5% to you. If you led 8a/19a, winning 8 points would get you 89% Me, and a gammon win would be another 11%.
