You're right, 30 covers either way since 55 should count after 14/13. Given that both plays are equally good after a non-6, which is better if Black gets a 6? The answer is 14/13 since you'll have any 5 or 66 hit back if you played 17/16 with the ace vs. any 5 plus 64 if you play 14/13. 17/16 dupes your 5s and 6s to both enter and hit back on the 9-point while 14/13 allows you to hit back with a non-entering number.
