Yes, of course. 2.0 + 5.5 is still 7.5 in this universe. I guess I must have added 5.5 to the 3:1 odds value.

Elo ratings in the real world is based on actual match results - how effective are you at beating your competition, not your error rate. Elo therefore takes into account the net of all of the "playing your competition" and psychological strategies. There is a contradiction of sorts in that a player would be charged for mistakes against his ER in order to make decisions that improve his winning chances against his opponent. So to some extent over the range of competition, Elo is not truly mappable to ER in any linear relationship. Perhaps if players always played to minimize ER instead of playing to win, it would be more predictable.

And I know nothing about chess other than someone else had posted that the 75% one-level threshold was at about 200 Elo in chess.
