Chess vs. backgammon

So, six levels in backgammon means that if top wc is ~2000 Elo points, lowest level is ~800. That sounds reasonable - I think I've never seen anyone who had this low rating on a server, but then again bloody beginners don't play on servers.
12 levels in chess means that lowest level is ~400 Elo. I don't have a feeling for that number, but a table in the German Wikipedia says a casual player is between 1200-1000, and beginner everything below 1000. So maybe 400 is a bit low?
Anyway, looking at it that way, it seems that Robertie and David were about right all along: The level ratio is about 2:1 or slightly lower. But the point in my initial post was that that 2:1 does not work well when looking at the top achievers. WC-2 level in chess is a much higher achievement than WC-1 level in backgammon. Maybe this means that backgammon players approach perfect play rather rapidly in the beginning of their education, but also have rapidly diminishing returns after that initial phase?
