Physical disabilities

If a player has a physicial disability that prevents him from easily picking up the dice, rolling the dice, or hitting the clock, he should be allowed to have an assistant perform these duties for him.
Similarly, if a player has poor vision and can't read the dice, he could have an assistant read the dice for him.
Excellent suggestion. I think this should be extended (when approriate) to moving the checkers, too. There is still likely a small communication time hit in my addedum, but maybe an adjustment to the clock settings can alleviate that.
The ideal assistant is someone who doesn't know how to play backgammon. That way there is no chance the assistant would inadvertently impart information to the player.
I see the word 'ideal' so no real problem with this sentence. However, I also feel this is an area where integrity should (and hopefully -- another qualifier :) -- would) be the norm. IMO, it's hard for someone who doesn't play BG to know how to follow instructions on moving the checkers. Further, it could be a major imposition for the player to actually find someone who meets that qualification.
