Re: The player in question is now tossing the dice.

Yer, that’s not all s/he is tossing !

As a general rule of thumb (because every chouette house has its own rules / guidlines, proceedures etc.) one rolls of the right hand side of the board as a player faces it - same as in Tournament play. Permission may be granted to a player to roll on the other side of the board but permission MUST BE SOUGHT AND OBTAINED from the opponent(s) before the roll is made. In the case that the player is in the box this means that s/he must obtain permission from all other interested parties which could be 5 players if you are playing a 6 man chouette (1 in box versus 5 on team.) How utterly laborious this could / probably would become !

We should also look as to why The Tosser wishes to roll on the other side of the board. If it is because his/her side is so highly populated with checkers that getting a good roll is going to be difficult, then s/he has some sort of case. However if said Tosser is perfectable physical able it’s about damned time s/he learnt to roll dice compentley. Even if it takes him/her 2 or 3 attempts to roll uncocked dice on the right hand side of the board this is still I think going to be quicker than asking all other players for permission (and getting it) to roll on the other side of the board.

I should think you and your other chouette players should ask yourselves « How desperate are we to have this player in our chouette ? » If you’re in Hicksville and the nearest other backgammon board and players are 100 miles away then, ok, maybe keep Tosser on. But otherwise I’d be tempted to inform, politly of course, Tosser where to go or get into line and quit messing about.

Of course if Tosser is the biggest fish around you might wish to put up with his/her shinanigans if you need his/her cash. Which reminds me, on the basis of what I've learnt about this player, I would not be giving him/her a single cent on tick. Instead I'd like to see the maximum ammount of cash s/he might lose during the session on the table before s/he commences play. Thank you or goodbye.
