Rolling on "wrong" side -- a pointless rule

In Israel dice count no matter which side of the board they land on--half on one, half on the other, all on the left, whatever, it's all good..
Still, I always rolled on the right because it's just a habit for me and I didn't feel like breaking it. This one guy I played with would consistently roll on the left side of the board. He would also fast-roll me. It felt like I was flying to get my hand out of the way as his dice were landing. A couple of times, there were 4 dice on the board and I couldn't figure out which dice were which.
No hard feelings but if I go back to Israel it won't be to play backgammon since it gives me a headache and then some.
