Behind in the race? The timing to wait? Build a board. Wait for a shot. Don't turn one spare Brown six (the third checker on Brown's eight point) into three (all three of those checkers). Keep a second line of defense (the first being the midpoint) against Brown's two backmost checkers (an immediate 5-5 and 4-4 are winners, but imagine if Brown has to play 4-4 or 6-X after losing the eight point). 13/2.
