In Response To: 51 to play (mochy)

Here's how I look at this position:

1. With the hit on the 24 point we have taken a nice lead in the race.

1a. We have also gained a tempo with the hit.

2. We are badly outboarded.

3. Hitting on the ace point leaves a blot that won't necessarily be so easy to cover even if we are missed.

4. We want to make a prime; a specific goal is making the 5 point or failing that, the 4 point.

5. Owning the cube, we want to make incremental improvements and then redouble.

6. We are likelier to get gammoned than to win a gammon. So we want to steer away from gammonish variations, given that the gammon price is the same for both sides.

All of these factors lead me to think that the safe play 8-3 is right here.
