Unusual opening moves

Nobody recent comes to mind, but
(1) I've had opponents who double split on many rolls -- 4-3 and such. Kerdísei me mávro í kókkino and all that (or something like that) ...
(2) I watched a session once in NYC where the Fish player slotted and double-slotted liberally ŕ la Becker. The interesting thing was that his opponent the Shark was not big on splitting himself, but completely changed his strategy over to splitting. That completely destroyed Fish's game plan -- he kept slotting and double-slotting anyway for a while on second rolls, and when that didn't work out, he really had no idea what to do.
(3) I had a club mate in DK who always played opening 2-1 13/10.
On a website somewhere:
Winning at Backgammon is not so complex. I've used these very simple tricks for years, and I rarely lose.
- Know when to capture
- Spread out your influence
- End well
- Don't be a robot
