Nice problem JLee, i was originally gonna post i dont know wtf a chouette is but thankfully its irrelevant.

I think its impossible to know since the weight of the doubling cube will make the boat sink deeper into the water, displacing it higher up the banks. When the doubling cube is thrown into the lake it cancels out this effect but displaces the water higher up the bank by a volume equal to the cube.

I think the weight of the cube is of significant importance.
