I saw that board in action in Vegas a few years ago. It was pretty cool... one of the quibbles I had was that when you made a move where the computer couldn't tell what roll (11 vs. 31 for example), you had to type it in. That's not the part that was bad... it was the keypad you had to use. The "buttons" had to be pushed really hard for it to register -- not like a key on a computer keyboard. I really don't know how to describe it. I don't like manipulables where I have to exert a great deal of force for it to register. The aesthetics were a little funny... with little holes on the board for sensors. But really, the implementation was impressive.
The board was invented by Jakob Garal, whose other backgammon "invention" is too ridiculous for me to even mention.
There's been talk on this board of people being able to write software to take video of matches and convert it to a match file. As much as I'd REALLY like this, I'm now thinking: pigs fly.
