Autorecording Board?

Thanks everyone for your comments. Seems like OCR (or is it OIR) has the most potential and would not require special board/pieces/dice. As a first try I'd be happy with just recording the positions which I'd thing wouldn't be so hard - except for stacked checkers. Maybe along with saying the dice out loud as Greg mentioned (and voice recognition?) in the case of ambiguous dice. If the trigger could be tied into a clock it would make taking images of each position easy. Even if not playing with a clock could still use the trigger mechanism.
