New Images for the Forums

Yes, I think that they are an improvement over the old images. However, there are a couple of things that I find irritating about the new images and I hope that they can be tweaked by Xavier to make them even better. Here are my constructive criticisms:

1. The Bar: The white squares on the bar which appear to be hinges look bad and should be removed. They are ornamental only, serve no purpose, and only add visual clutter to the diagram. Also the dark line in the center of the bar should be removed. It does not divide the bar equally, which is visually disconcerting. Like the hinges, it is superfluous and adds clutter. Compare it to the bar on the old diagram which has a cleaner look to it.

2. Cube Images: The numbers in the cube images are too small and difficult to read. You almost have to squint to read them. Compare them to the big red cube numbers on the old diagrams which are clearer and use a better looking font. Please improve these numbers.

3. Bear-Off Trays: The bear-off trays have a gradient appearance which seems to be intended to give an illusion of depth. This type of 3D effect draws the eye's attention as being out of place with the rest of the 2D board. Also, the left trays are quite dark, and when there are checkers in them the numbers showing how many checkers are borne off are also in a dark font. This makes them difficult to read.

4. Point Numbers: The point numbers are in a dark font on a dark background. If there were more contrast between the numbers and the background they would look better. Perhaps the numbers could be in a white or other light-colored font.

As far as the checkers and point/background images go, they are nice and sharp and are a distinct improvement over the older images. All in all, I think that Xavier has contributed a very nice set of board images. I hope that he will take my comments as constructive suggestions for improvement and that he considers accepting them.
