"World Championship" -- Demographics (partial) and Ideas

One of WC 2010 fact I forgot to include. The winner, Lars Bentzon, went 7-0 while playing only one player, Pia Jepperson, included on the Giants of Backgammon ballot and no one in the Giants top 64. The finalist, Ricardo Malas, went 6-1 while playing three players -- Stick Rice, Tore Fredricsen, and Olivier DeCultot -- included on the Giants of Backgammon ballot. Stick is, of course, Giant #7.

I congratulate the two gentlemen for their accomplishments and wish not to demean them in any way -- they fairly succeeded within the existing system. However, I think there should be a better way to determine our World Champion. A system such as I suggest may well have concluded with the same two players meeting in the finals; however, if so, certainly no one could question the process.
