Meyer Dice Tube

In Response To: Meyer Dice Tube (Stick)

I was fortunate enough to win a free dice tube as a door prize in Michigan. It's a $60 value, they tell me. I've never won such a valuable door prize... although I never checked the market price on the cookie jar I won in Pittsburgh that looks like two penguins hugging. Door prizes are great.

I didn't know if I'd get any use out of it but it turns out to be a lot of fun for the kids. Mine even has one blue die and one pink die, so it's perfect for Desmond and Audrey. Of course it took Desmond about 5 minutes to throw it into a full bathtub, at which point I learned that when they claim the tube is hermetically sealed, they're kinda just kidding.

Since the tube doesn't fit in my Aries board it's probably never going to be anything but a toy for the kids.

It doesn't seem like that much of a pain to use, and I would gladly do so, but I can't ever see myself badgering an opponent to try it. The whole tap thing seems very artificial and awkward. If I were using both the tube and a clock, though, I imagine I'd have the tube on one side of the board and the clock on the other, with no need to tap since you're hitting your clock. I don't really get what Stick means about moving it from one side of the board to the other because you can just flip it over.

I really don't see what the point of all these innovations is other than to deal with the problem of dice mechanics. I'm not convinced that the solution to that issue has come along yet. While, unlike Stick, I am prepared to assume that the dice tube generates random rolls if used properly, I have no idea whether a dice mechanic can influence the outcome. How would I know? The same holds true for baffle boxes - particularly baffle boxes that aren't my own.
