I don't really get what Stick means about moving it from one side of the board to the other because you can just flip it over.

If you don't put it on your side when you roll or your opponent puts it on his side when he rolls this opens up such a gray area for disputes. On Brett's site he mentions that you need to place it on the side of the person who is on roll to know whose turn it is and I agree.

I am prepared to assume that the dice tube generates random rolls if used properly

Why not prove it to the people that would like to see the data if you have done the work though? If he has been developing it for 4 years + now I think he'd have some nifty little charts on his site available saying we did this experiment and that experiment and here are the results and voilą, random!
