I think it is a very good rule !

I would recommend Stick's rule to most players because it is so easy to use and lower your error rate from today.

However, what I think most interesting is trying to find a correct play, not choosing safety, likely correct but boring play. As I am untalented from the beginning , I can only learn backgammon by a process of trying an uncommon play (usually against a rule) then penalized an error (but new error).

So I won't be bothered wasting time and making a new blunder. Thats more challenging to me.
