I agree. See my ssccd (svilo score cube CLOCK dice) made in 1999. Made with a very small cpu, memory, LCD and RAM. http://svilo.com/ssccd.htm For much more than half a century the trend was to improve power and not efficiency. I remember the times when computer programs were still judged by the EFFICENCY - economy + speed + accuracy.

It is not a virtue to be economic when in poverty - is is a nessecity, it is a virtue to be economic when rich. The essence of all human activity - economy or art or warfare is the efficiency - economic employment of resources.
