I keep re-reading your posts and I keep thinking that we are actually saying the same thing. For 40-50 players, we intend to pay up to 7 places. Most likely we will reach or pass that target after round 11. If there are 7 or fewer players at 8-3 or better, we will pay out the 8-3's and proceed with the rest. If by some fluke (unlikely given both your sims and mine) we reach 7 or fewer players after round 10, we will pay out the 7-3's and proceed with the rest.

In both your description and mine it is likely that we will only pay to 5 or 6 places instead of 7. It is quite likely that after round 10 there will be 8 or 9 players left and 3 or 4 will be eliminated in round 11.

For 20-25, paying to 7 just dilutes the prize pool too much, so we will set our target lower, probably 5. That means we will pay to 3, 4 or 5 places. I expect that the 3-loss players will be paid out after round 9 or 10, but I don't really know until we play it.
