Toss my name in with Rich's and Jason's (and there's not much more I can say than what Rich said, and regardless, I could never have said it so eloquently).

To answer's Adam's initial question, I doubt it would affect my decision to attend one way or the other. I also agree with Neil and others who have expressed their preference for progressive LC.

A compromise which has existed for as long as I can remember is that players are allowed to forfeit out of the LC without penalty. For those who feel it's not worth their time, that gives them the chance to skedaddle to greener pastures.

Pardon me, those who have heard this story (even multiple times :). In the mid-90's a few years after I returned to the game I reached the LC at the Midwest Champs and drew a WC player in the first round. He approached me as play was about to begin and said he was going to forfeit. I told him I understood but was disappointed as I seldom got a chance to play against someone of his caliber, and had been looking forward to it. He replied "well would you like to put $100 on the match?" and I respectfully declined. At that point he sneered at me "I didn't think so!" and waltzed away. He may have been a World Class BG player but he more than made up for that by being a 1st Class Asshole. Fortunately there are few (maybe no) players that I know in the US today who would deride an unknown, inexperienced player so rudely. Even a handful with his attitude would ruin tournament BG for the rest of us. Fortunately he is no longer around to poison the game.
