Rollout: Bearing in with no contact

A nice thing about non-contact positions is that in principle we could actually compute the mathematically correct answer, without having to trust that the bot is playing correctly. Has anybody... done so?

Many people have done this (well, many = about a dozen?) but the champion of the technique is Hugh Sconyers who started working on this a couple decades (maybe more) ago and over the years built a database which is close to 50 GB in size. I don't think his DB includes situations where checkers are outside the homeboard (could be wrong on that). Here's the link:

Also, you used to be able to link the DB into GNU-bg, and maybe the current GNU-bg versions still allow that.
