I don't want to leave a direct shot (by playing 2[2]).

I don't want to break our 4-prime (by playing, for example, 8/2, 8/7).

That leaves 13/7 for our six; now find an ace.

Whether we're on the 13-point or the 12-point, we leave four immediate shots. The 13-point is better for recapturing an escaping checker, while staying there still means finding an ace. I like the slot now. We want to improve our board for a possible future hit. We want to smooth our bearoff structure (emphasizing that we don't want to stack, either).
