I don't remember the exact position, but your conclusions were not correct. Matt had given me and Taki a each an 8 cube, and it was a clear double and a clear take. A few rolls later, after I settled for paying 1, Taki had 5 checkers left and Matt had 3. Clearly, Taki should not redouble. But Taki rolled a set, and now Matt will lose unless he rolls a set, and he did.

The details here are pretty sketchy/misleading.
