I cannot speak for Paul, but I took his post to be extremely funny as well as accurate. I know, for certain, that many people have and do cheat on line, and Paul's pointing out that is it unfair to record them live because they would be exposed as cheating is quite humorous. Since he didn't name names or give any indication of individuals he's talking about, I see no harm in what he said. Keep in mind there are other ways of cheating on line besides using a bot...you can have a take-point or match equity table in front of you or you can have a better player coaching you.
When I used to play in the $25 fibs chouette on line, Sly was often sitting next to me and helping me...he was clearly better than most of the players in the chou (except that he was a terrible gambler at the time and cost me money) and I would have had a real advantage had I not disclosed to everyone that he was there with me. I have played other matches on line, in tournaments and for money, when another WC player was in the room with me (David Wells, Howard Ring, and others) and they could have easily helped me on tough decisions...and sometimes they even did make comments about my plays AFTER I made them. Even making comments afterwards could be considered cheating by some people.
Point is, without live recording of matches, you really never know how good someone is. I'm not talking about the Giants and known, respected players, as they are all recorded enough for us to be certain they are capable of playing under 3.0...but everyone else's skill, in my opinion, is suspect if we don't have live evidence of their ability, and that's a major argument to allow or even require live recording of matches.
Personally, I have nothing to hide. I will bet anyone that I can play under 10.0 live (most of the time).
