Backgammon analogy?

In Response To: Backgammon analogy? (Chuck Bower)

Good analogy.

However, not quite perfect since in your BG tourney everyone has played to the same rules in the same rounds. So, though I still think it would be wrong, there could be some argument of justification -- just as later rounds are sometimes of longer duration. In the golf tourney the competition is of a continuing basis.

Perhaps the better analogy is throughout Saturday in the BG tournament the matches were played at 1.5/10 settings, including two of the quarterfinals, one of which was decided by a player timing out -- plus four earlier matches having timed out. THEN the directors decide that the settings are too fast and that all matches Sunday -- including the two remaining quarterfinals -- will be played with longer settings.
