Backgammon analogy?

First, the backgammon directors have the "right" to make any rulings they think is appropriate to make the game better or more fair given the circumstances...so the "right" is not in question. The question is, would it be fair to those left in the tournament and those eliminated if the rules were changed on the second day?
My answer is this: if ALL THE PARTICIPANTS REMAINING agreed to the change, then no one is hurt by the change, but if even one objects, then it would be unfair to make the change. As for the participants who were knocked out, NOTHING DONE IN THE FUTURE ROUNDS HAS ANY AFFECT ON THEM.
I do believe that anyone who is remaining has a right to insist and expect that the rules that were established when he entered are maintained and should not be changed unless there are circumstances that the director feels are important enough to require the change. And to me, that would have to be an extremely important reason that would clearly have to be shown to be for the benefit of the game and the majority of the players.
