While I think the idea has merit, the downside is that it can open up a world-wide bitch session that unfairly criticizes tournament directors. Having run tournaments of many kinds, and clubs, I know that it is impossible to please everyone and that no matter what you do someone will complain. To make these complaints public only gives a greater platform to the complainers.
Having said that, however, if a tournament really is run poorly and the director does not keep things moving and doesn't know the rules and gives bad rulings; if the hospitality is terrible and there are few options; if the location stinks and there is poor lighting and lousy rooms for the money; that is something people should know.
Maybe the answer is to have the USBGF offer a rating (1-10) for tournaments based on input from the participants? And this rating can be posted on the web site with a note like: "Some players felt the hotel was greatly overpriced," or "some players felt they were required to play too late into the night" etc.
Personally, while I don't agree with the way all tournament directors handle things, I find that ALL of them running tournaments in the US right now are extremely capable and do a great job. As for the tournaments, themselves, I mostly go based on geographic convenience and if it fits in to my schedule. I am not going to go or stay because of the hotel, the hospitality, to entry fee, or other details. I think that's true for most people.
