Eliminate entry fees to promote backgammon?

Rather, we have entry fee which currently is around 5% of the monthly average salary.

Example (don't know how relevant for your country, though). $15/hr X 0.8 [for withholding] X (40 hr/wk) X (4 wk/month) X 5% [entry fee] = $96.

Sounds high to me for a weekly event for general players. Here I'm thinking the usual one evening per week club game. If it's a one weekend day event, it still seems a bit high unless this is the Open division and there are lower divisions with smaller entry fees.
