I don't like leaving and having the clock running. I like noting the time both on my scoresheet and usually a quick picture with my iphone when I leave so there are no issues when I come back whether someone messed with the clock, the batteries died, or Shino needed another one to bust up.

Also, if my opponent wants to go on a break I have to be there when he gets back or ... he starts my time? He centers the clock?

It seems like there would be other oddities that could also arise. First let's get clocks as mandatory as we can and a good distribution owned by the players and TDs, then we'll deal with any still existing issues. I believe you personally have more of a problem with it than most here as I've never that I can recall had someone take too long of a break in the US. In Europe though, Monte Carlo specifically that I remember, watch out, it's break central and I'll be back by sundown.
