"Having a Bronstein clock run while I'm taking a break is just plain dumb. Losing 3 to 5 games worth of reserve time just because I suggested a break? Give me a break!"

I fail to see any logic in this statement. If your reserve time is increased by 10 minutes to give you an enforceable budget of time to take breaks "on the clock", then how are you losing 3 to 5 games of reserve time by taking breaks? You're using 10 minutes of reserve time you would not have otherwise had. You want to give yourself more time to make backgammon decisions? Take shorter breaks.

Is the goal of using clocks in backgammon to limit the time people have to think about moves and cubes? Or is the goal to ensure that matches are finished in a predictable amount of time in order to keep the tournament running on track? I think it is the latter that is the more important goal.
