Separate Clock for Breaks

Does it work if player A returns to table, B is not present at end of break, A starts the clock, A leaves but first correctly stops clock, B returns while A is not present?
I think that would be pretty unusual. A wouldn't want to halt his time-profiting unless he had a sudden emergency. (He already had his chance to go the bathroom or whatever during the break.)
But it's a valid question. You're saying A is first to return, starts the clock for a few minutes, then leaves (correctly stopping the clock as he does so), and B returns next. Here is my suggested way of handling it:
B can reset the original side (the one on A's side that is at 6:00 or a bit after) to 12:00 and start it. When A returns, the clock is stopped and both players incur a time penalty.
(For example, 12:04 vs 12:08 with a 50% multiplier means that one player loses 2 minutes of reserve time and the other 4 minutes.)
This solution works no matter how many times players (foolishly) leave and come back. There is still dead time when both players are absent, but each player is rewarded (by opp time decay) whenever he is at the table, and there is that much less time the round can be delayed for everyone.
