No Breaks Allowed

I agree. This is all getting way too complicated.

My solution is simple- no breaks allowed.

Players can wear Depends. Our backgammon population is old enough that probably 70% of the players do already. Directors can gain additional revenue by selling Depends at a small, government-approved profit margin.

If astronauts can crap their drawers and still do their job, why can't we?

Or, if this solution stinks to you, maybe tournaments could hire restroom attendants who could monitor conditions in the restroom, and provide input to the adjudication process if players arrive late from their designated break time because of an overcapacity issue in the restroom.

Or, in addition to having a proctor for a match, have a proctologist oversee the match as well to determine if conditions in the stall warranted overstepping the five-minute boundary. I mean, as an opponent, I'd rather have my opponent return after seven minutes instead of five, without penalty, if he's using that extra two minutes to wipe until he's not leaving an autograph and then washing his hands thoroughly afterward. Some of us do like the spice and are willing to pay the price.
