If the weaker players can be intimidated by big names...

What about weaker players being intimidated by big name bots?

I recall hearing about an (side-)event in at a European tournament in the second half of the 90's where a bot (either JF or SW, can't recall) was entered. It was supposed to be a 16-bracket. The event was cancelled because they couldn't get more than a handful of humans to sign up.
