Madison is in what used to be called I-AA and is now called FCS, and they've been pretty strong for the last several years, including a national championship at that level about 4 or 5 years back. Last year they played at Maryland and had a 7 pt. lead in the fourth quarter after being down 15 in the first half before wearing out at the end and losing by a FG in OT.

They had played Va Tech six times previously, all in Blacksburg, and had never come close, in fact not having scored in something like 9 quarters against them and losing 43-0 the last time they played.

The JMU head coach, who was also their head coach when they won the I-AA championship a few years back, called their win over Virginia Tech the biggest win in school history.

JMU is hoping to move up to division I but has been told by the NCAA that the main obstacle to such a move is the lack of a Sonic Drive-In restaurant in Harrisonburg, VA, where the campus is located.
