Simborg's Duplicate Backgammon

Duplicate Scrabble is my family's favorite competition when we get together (in addition to Gin, Hearts, and Bridge).
The way we play, looking at the same board and the same 7 tiles, the best play is the one with the highest score--there is no "defensive strategy"--and we are using the rules set when the original Duplicate Scrabble game came out in the 1970's when we first started playing it.
This is exactly what gave me the inspiration for the form of Duplicate Backgammon I use and present at tournaments.
My family and I play a little more "cutthroat" version of Duplicate Scrabble, as the player who's turn it is to go first declares how many points he can make with the 7 letters, and the next player must either beat it or pass. If the next player beats the first player, he gets a bonus of 20 points, and if nobody beats the first player, he gets a bonus of 20 points for his play. Of course, we have all kinds of "challenge options" if someone's word is challenged, and it amounts to something very close to using the doubling cube where, if challenged, a player can "drop" the challenge or accept it, which doubles the points of the challenge.
We also use the doubling cube when playing gin rummy, which, in my opinion, is the best gambling game I have ever played. You get 1 times the cube for a call, 2 times for a gin or undercut, and 3 times (backgammon) for an 11 card gin. To make it even more complex, we play matches to 7 or 11 points with the Crawford Rule. Again, best gambling game I've ever played.
