History of Duplicate Backgammon

Paul Magriel was first on the scene with this form of backgammon. He introducted it about 15 years ago, my recollection and his. I remember it was after Snowie was on the scene for a while. Does anyone know when Snowie first came out?
Paul's format was a selection of the first 10 moves of a game. Each of the candidate plays were rolled out and your score was based on the lowest ER for the 10 moves. Paul gave this quiz to his students and to most of the top players of that era. The two p;ayers that did best were Robertie and Ballard.
Some years ago, when Paul became less active in backgammon I took on the mantle and gave the quiz (selected the moves from games) to a number of experts and others when attending tournaments. Maybe Chuck Bowers or Sam Pottle can remember when I gave them such a quiz as I was into it about a year or two at the time.
For the last 2 years I have been giving these at Howard's Chicago tournament. I start on the 3rd roll now as most expert players know the opening responses.
Phil's version of these awards points for the best move, and sometimes less points for second best. I believe ER's are more meaningful and fairer but do require a huge amount of rollout work.
I would like to see a high entry fee event of this kind with the Giants battling it out, or even a more moderate entry fee event with a large number of participants.
