To the question "is poker losing its luster?"

1. Have online poker sites lost customers?

2. Have televised poker shows lost viewers?

3. Have IRL poker tournaments lost participants?

Most televised poker bores me (an exception, sometimes, is the Poker After Dark series). The emphasis on all-in show-downs. The uninformative and repetitive commentary -- "He needs an eight and only an eight to win!". The made-up nicknames and the personal bios that are obvious attempts to turn a bunch of not particuarly interesting gamblers into made for TV personalities. But I agree with Joe Russell's suggestions, and that's basically what most televised poker shows do, and I suspect that's why they have whatever popularity they have, and that neither I nor Chuck are typical viewers.
