Phil writes: I promise you that I can find something to criticize at EVERY TOURNAMENT I have ever been to. And many criticisms, like yours, are valid.

So true! At even the best-run tournaments, there's always something (even many things) that can be improved. And good TDs welcome players' critiques. I'm sure Bill Davis does. But not carping. It gets old.

One thing TD's can do -- and I gather more might do this -- is to actively solicit comments in a formal way. Like by distributing a well thought out questionnaire at the end of the tournament, and encouraging everyone to respond. Or by following up by email after the tournament soliciting comments and suggestions. TDs want to know what you didn't like about their tournaments. And they also want to know what you liked.

One thing players can do is focus on how a tournament might be improved. It's too easy and not especially helpful to focus on what went wrong, instead of how to make it right.
