I tend to learn by progrssive deepening: learn the basics, practice them until they come naturally, then move on to the next level of understanding. For second move play, a natural progression is:

1. Tom Keith's excellent article http://www.bkgm.com/openings/replies.html. Appropriate for beginners.

2. Stick's article.

The next logical step in deepening our understanding would seem to be:
