Correct strategy for "best of three" format

I've played a number of best-of-five series but only online. I will adjust my doubling strategy based on earlier matches. Rarely, I will adjust checker play versus a weaker opponent. If I know a weaker opponent is "hit happy", I will be more inclined to split with opening/early rolls where it may be a slight error trying to bait my opponent into incorrectly hitting.
If I have won the previous match and felt I was the better player I try to push on and get my opponent to play the next match right away. I have seen some opponents treating each game after losing a match as it it were gammon-go.
Also, if I lose to a weaker player I try to postpone playing the next match so I can analyze where my weaknesses were and try to find his weaknesses that I can exploit. You probably cannot do in a live tournament, however.
