The rollout indicates in a PerfectPlayer vs PerfectPlayer game, the position is a double. Stick, however, is suggesting that in real life, against a weaker opponent, you should not double. I can contribute one reason, Bill Phipps contributes another.

(1) My reason the thesis of the 1996 book by Jake and Walter, "Can a Fish Taste Twice As Good?" Double later in a match against a weaker opponent and pass earlier.

(2) BJP suggested that by doubling now, you eliminate any chance that your opponent might make a cube error later. If you wait, he might make a bad take or an early pass. On the other hand, you might miss your market by a mile.

Incidentally, it has now been quite a few years since Stick has faced a player stronger than himself in a tournament. It is been precisely the same amount of time since I have faced a player weaker than myself in a tournament.
