I deleted a diagram and rollout. You posted the second position + analysis twice, this may have been confusing and the reason why nobody has responded to the thread. Remember, the Preview Message button is your bff.
As Paul probably already knows but perhaps some of you don't, the wastage for White in these positions is still going to be near 7 pips. Paul posted recently the ideal position one tries to reach when bearing in in a straight race to have the least amount of wastage:
is Player 2
score: 0
pip: 79Money session
Jacoby Beaverpip: 79
score: 0
is Player 1
XGID=----CEG------------gec----:0:0:1:00:0:0:3:0:10 on roll, cube action?
eXtreme Gammon Version: 1.21
Even though you have borne off a significant amount of checkers your wastage is near the same, I would estimate 6.5 for Paul's positions realizing of course that the second would be slightly lower than the first. So the actual pip count for White in the first problem is 42 and his effective pip count would be 48.5. In the second position White's pip count would adjust from 36 pips to an epc of just under 48.5.
As for Black he has a typical flat position which is known to waste 10 pips. In Paul's first position I'd expect Black's epc to be 52 and in the second position 46.
