I like keeping my options open here with 13/8. Question is, where would I prefer to get hit - on the ace or mid? The mid has no real value; so being hit there does not cost much. Being hit on the ace loses too much ground.

I believe we should not easily rely on rules of thumb without good reason.

Going after the 5 here is key for several reasons. We dont have a substantial lead in the race, so we need to contain the best we can. 13/8 does that.

Making the 5 eases the future liability of the 18.

13/8 does not go against the grain nor is it the exception. Priming is not the objective here but protecting the race lead is.
