I think you are trying to convince us that somehow we are all wrong and your original argument is correct. If so I recommend redacting the above as soon as possible.

Suppose there were about 8 seconds left. Do you still feel that it is moronic to go for the 2 pointer right away?

Suppose you are trying to get a perfect two out of two on a quiz about history. I tell you in advance that one question is very easy and that educated peple who follow the news get it right 98% of the time. The other question is harder and gotten correct 40% of the time. You get to say which order you get to answer the questions in. Does the order matter then? Your logic is saying yes, you want to maintain the chance of getting the perfect score as long as possible.
